Each year, physicians have the opportunity to participate directly in the legislative process by volunteering as Physician of the Day at the Indiana Statehouse during the General Assembly session. For 2026, physicians are invited to serve during the month of February.
Physicians of the Day staff the Statehouse medical office during regular session hours and are available to address minor medical needs of legislators and their staff. Volunteers are also formally recognized on the House and Senate floors and have the opportunity to observe the legislative process firsthand while engaging with state policymakers.
This is a one-day volunteer commitment. Participating physicians must be comfortable providing basic medical care and performing CPR. Please note that residents and medical students are not eligible to serve in this role.
Physicians interested in volunteering for 2026 should contact the Indiana State Medical Association advocacy team at advocacy@ismanet.org, call 317-261-2060, or visit isma.net for additional details and scheduling information.
